When it comes to music made by women in the twentieth century, Joni Mitchell is the preeminent pioneer. With forays into almost every genre, Mitchell paved the way for many other composers of popular songs copyright. Like many others, got started playing folk music in coffee shops during the early 60's. In 67, Reprise Records released her self-titled acoustic debut. 1969 saw the release of their second album, Clouds , followed in 1970 by the successful Ladies of the Canyon , which topped the charts with "Big Yellow Taxi."
